Special Precautions
Before taking Maltofer Fol chewable tablets is started, a doctor should confirm the blood's iron and haemoglobin levels using appropriate tests. If the symptoms are not caused by iron deficiency, Maltofer Fol chewable tablets will not be effective. The doctor will want to monitor the progress of the treatment with periodic follow-up examinations and may even carry out blood tests. This is normal and should not be alarming. If symptoms do not improve within three weeks, see the doctor.
Tell the doctor or pharmacist before taking Maltofer Fol if the following is present: An infection or a tumour; A vitamin B12 deficiency (The folic acid contained in Maltofer Fol can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency).
Tell the doctor or pharmacist if being treated with one of the following medicines: Iron preparations for injection (Using such iron preparations at the same time as Maltofer Fol is not recommended); Medicines for the treatment of epilepsy, in particular phenytoin; Chloramphenicol, a medicine for the treatment of bacterial infections (The doctor will monitor carefully if taking both medicines).
Also tell the doctor if blood transfusions have been received as there is a risk of iron overload as a result of the additional administration of iron.
Tell the doctor or pharmacist if: suffering from any other illnesses; having any allergies; taking any other medicines (including over-the-counter medicines) or using any other medicines externally.
